New "Single Park" Genie+ Option Debuts June 27

This post summarizes the changes coming to Disney World’s Genie+ system on June 27. Beginning June 27 at Walt Disney World, you will be able to buy Genie+ for a specific park or Genie+ for all four parks. That is, when you come to the purchase screen for Genie+ you’ll see five options:

If you buy Genie+ for a specific park, you’ll only be able to use it to book the Genie+ Lightning Lanes in that park. If you buy it for all four parks, you’ll be able to book in different parks.

To be clear, the “Multiple Parks” version of Genie+ is basically the same system that was in place since October 2021. You’ll still need park hopper tickets to actually visit multiple parks, and you’ll still be subject to the 2PM second-park booking rule discussed later in this post. It’s the single park options that are new, more limited options.

A lot of people are hyping this as a “major change.” And it is…to a point. This site contains some of the most detailed information on Genie+ and yet we barely touch on park hopping because for most guests on most days its a secondary aspect of their trip. Most people are going and using Genie+ to get them through a day at a single park.

If you’re a hardcore park hopper who plans to take advantage of Genie+ at multiple parks, well, now you have a choice to make as to whether you still want to pay to do that. I don’t like that things keep getting more complicated, but this just doesn’t seem like a change worth dwelling on, in my opinion.

We’ll see that each day basically has five prices—one for each of the parks and one for the Multiple Park option. Here’s the pricing for June 27, for example:

  • Multiple Parks: $27/person

  • Magic Kingdom: $27/person

  • Hollywood Studios: $24/person

  • EPCOT: $18/person

  • Animal Kingdom: $16/person

Should I Buy Genie+ For One Or Multiple Parks?

There’s no way to say this except the obvious…if you’re planning to use Genie+ at multiple parks in a single day, you’ll need to buy it for multiple parks.

But, trying to be a little more helpful, I’ll say that our approaches to the parks almost always involve a single park in a single day. If you’re minding the budget of your trip, I’d be 100% perfectly content with someone who planned to just buy Genie+ for single parks, whichever park days they decided to do that. If you’d like to see our one-park-per-day itineraries, here they are:

There are times when I’d buy Genie+ for multiple parks. The most common is that I’m splitting a day between EPCOT and Hollywood Studios, or between Animal Kingdom and any other park. I bolded those two parks because you’ll notice those also have the lowest Genie+ prices, and this is part of the point—if you opt into the single park option at those parks, you probably will have to spend more time in them because your Genie+ won’t be useful at the second park.
