The Best Signup Bonuses for the Major Point Currencies (Feb. 2017)

Need to stock up on points? Here are the best places to stock up on each of the four major currencies this month.

Chase Ultimate Rewards

The best way to get a large stock of Chase Ultimate Rewards points is still the in-branch signup offer for the Chase Sapphire Reserve (until March 12). That card comes with a $450 annual fee (offset by a $300 travel credit that can be used for things like Uber and Undercover Tourist), and a signup bonus of 100,000 points for $4000 spend in the first three months.

The online offer for that card is just 50,000, so you're much better off applying in-branch. Alternatively, the Chase Sapphire Preferred ($95 annual fee waived first year) offers 50,000 for the same spend.

American Express Membership Rewards

The highest public offer for American Express Membership Rewards points is 75,000 points from the Business Platinum Card from American Express OPEN for spending $20,000 in three months. It's hard to call that the best offer for obvious reasons. The Platinum Card ($450 annual fee, $200 airline credit) offers 40,000 for $3,000 spent in 3 months, which is probably the best public offer.

However, in our experience, targeted offers from American Express are much more desirable. You can check for targeted offers at CardMatch or by checking your mail. Since you can only get a signup bonus on each American Express card once in your lifetime, we strongly advise waiting for a good, targeted offer. We recently got 50,000 points for $2,000 spend on a targeted offer on the Premier Rewards Gold Card.

Citi ThankYou Points

I've recently seen offers for the Citi Prestige ($450 annual fee, $250 annual air travel credit) than include, for spend in 3 months, 50,000 points for $4000, 50,000 points for $5000, and 40,000 points for $4000.

YMMV depending on what browser you use, or whether you sign in on a browser with cookies from another Citi card holder, and so on. Alternatively, the Citi ThankYou Premier ($95 annual fee waived first year) offers 30,000 ThankYou points for $3000 spend in 3 months.

Starwood Starpoints

American Express just improved their offer on the SPG Amex Personal and Business Cards. The spending requirement is $3000 in 3 months for 25,000 Starpoints (the standard offer) and an additional $2000 in the first 6 months for a further 10,000 Starpoints.
