With four theme parks and over 20 hotels, there is something new going up at Walt Disney World Resort pretty much constantly. In this post, we’re going to do our best to create a list of major ongoing construction projects.
The bulk of this post is a month-by-month timeline providing a list of major construction at Disney World, including new rides being built, and refurbishments that have been announced for the month. We are including events and major entertainment changes here, too. Events are not new construction, but they often impact trip planning just as much.
Keep in mind that refurbishments may not be announced until a few weeks before they start. To see currently scheduled refurbishments for a given day, see the official Disney World calendar.
For hotels, the primary list includes only new hotel constructions. Sometimes we include a section called “Other Notable Construction” which has an incomplete list of notable ongoing work at hotels, new restaurants, or other construction projects.
This list is not “official”. We do our best to link to the source of the date when there’s any ambiguity or we’re relying on rumors. The date of this post is the last date the post was updated.
While this is the list we are using for scheduling our multitude of trips, you should definitely do independent research if you want to find out how “strong” a projected date is. That said, even dates confirmed by Disney are constantly changing.
Quick Notes About This Timeline
The timeline is arranged chronologically starting with the current month. Each year begins with a list of projects that aren’t specified precisely, but are expected in the year. Each month also contains certain things that aren’t specified by Disney yet. For things that occur on an annual schedule, we’ll give the previous year’s date until the current year’s date is confirmed.
For example, August 2025 has an entry “August 9 (2024 Date) - First Date of Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party”—this means the annual party debuted on August 9 in 2024, and we expect the first date to be around then in 2025.
Ride refurbishments are noted by beginning date, end date, and full months of closures in between. So a ride is closed in a month if we either indicate it is closed all month or that a refurbishment begins or ends that month.
